Team Webexpenses Completes ‘Miles of May’ Fundraising Challenge
Throughout the month of May, the Webexpenses teams across the globe took part in a fundraising activity for an Oxfordshire-based charity, Headway Oxfordshire.
The ‘Miles of May’ challenge involved Webexpenses employees covering as many miles as they could throughout May 2020.
Each Individual made a donation to take part, and set their own personal target to aim for.
The team's collective target was to cover 5800 miles throughout May. This distance is 1000 miles further - as the crow flies - than the distance from Webexpenses’s Oxfordshire headquarters to the office in Austin, Texas.
The miles were covered by all manner of exercise which included running, walking, cycling, horse riding, and even stand-up paddleboarding! Over 40 members of the team took part across the Oxford, Brisbane, and Texas offices, and team members gained additional support from friends, family, children, and horses, and dogs!
Jamie Miller, CEO at Headway Oxfordshire, was thrilled to partner up with Webexpenses for this great cause:
"Although the COVID 19 pandemic has brought grief, worry and fear into the lives of people throughout the entire world, it is the philanthropic acts of kindness, such as the support that the Webexpense's team have shown through the Miles of May challenge, that demonstrate the best of human nature. To think that Webexpense's staff and families from around the globe, have committed their time and energy to support our little charity in Oxfordshire, is humbling. We send our thanks to you all for helping us to help the most vulnerable in our community".
Throughout the month, the team made the most of their daily exercise allowance during the lockdown, and put it to good use. They didn’t just hit the target, they exceeded it. In total, the team covered 6,841 miles and raised over £1,000 for Headway Oxfordshire. All miles were recorded and tracked in the Webexpenses Club in Strava where members could see and reward each other’s achievements, and share photos of their activity.
In addition to raising vital funds for a charity, it has been a fantastic team activity for Webexpenses.
Adam Reynolds, CEO of Webexpenses commented:
‘‘I’m extremely proud of how the team has embraced this fundraising challenge. With everyone working remotely, the Miles of May challenge has connected the team through a combined goal and we’ve enjoyed sharing our exercise and photos along the way. It has created a real sense of community amongst the team, and I would really recommend it to other companies. To have raised over £1,000 for Headway Oxfordshire is a fantastic achievement, and I’m sure this donation will help the great work they do.’’
The fundraising activity was part of an ongoing commitment that Webexpenses has to Not-for-Profit companies during COVID-19. The company continues to offer their expense software at no cost to UK and US Not-for-Profit organisations during the pandemic, and has seen a strong uptake of this lifeline.
